Backups

SQL (database) backups are created automatically and can downloaded per FTP daily starting at 9 o'clock.
The packed SQL databases (.sql.bz2) are in folder "backups" above the webfolder /htdocs.
At best you create a new FTP access across the administration and choose there the folder "backups". The backups are overwritten daily.
These packed bz2 archives have to be unpacked before importing the SQL database with PhpMyAdmin.
Simply download the databases of your web per FTP and save them on the local PC.
It is advisable to burn the SQL and web backups on CD and keep in a save place.
Please make sure to recall the emails of your email account over an email program (f.ex. Outlook) regularly and to save them locally.

How to set file permissions (chmod)?

What does 'chmod' mean?
It is used to set the file permissions of individual databases or folders on the serversite.
It is needed especially when using scripts, so that they operate successfully on the server.
There are 3 different kinds of permissions: reading, writing and administrating rights.
These rights can be modified to your needs using an FTP-client. In most cases the detailed rights are defined in the script description. You can modify these rights on the server with choosing and clicking right on the required database or folder and choosing the option 'chmod'.
If a script does not operate successfully, normally the rights are not well defined.
You can control this using the specifications of the writer of the script. Take care not to define always the largest rights, this can create security problems.
Normally for databases chmod 644 and for folders 755.

Joomla Security - Important!

Please respect absolutely to avoid and damages to your website and our servers:
Please use ONLY the most recent version of Joomla and do not install any unsecure components from third-party suppliers.
On http://www.joomla-downloads.de/sicherheitsmeldungen/unsichere-komponenten you can find a list of unsecure components, which must not be used, if you do not want to expose your Joomla-installation, and therewith the whole webhosting server, to unnecessery dangers!
After setting up your hosting-account you can start installing Joomla! The Pre-installation check will inform you, if necessary, of installations which have to be modified before continuing the installation.
In addition, the following points must be strictly respected! Otherwise You will endanger your data and in whorst case the whole webserver through gross negligance:
- No file permissions ' 777 / rwxrwxrwx ' for index.php and configuration.php! You must set on '444' !
- Do not install unsecure components of third-party suppliers (Simpleboard, Extcal etc)!
- Only the most recent Joomla! versions!
If you have to reduce the restrictions of the file rights during the installation, only do this if you exactly know what you are doing. Don't forget in any case to reduce them afterwards - without delay! Basically: foldres maximum to '755' and files maximum to '644' !

CGI/Perl: Why do I get an "Internal Server Error"?

1. The script has to be uploaded in textformat (ASCII-Modus).
2. The access rights must be right
(normally command "chmod 755" according to the database authorizations -rwxr-xr-x).
2.1 777 is not allowed due to security reasons ( even if this renders the script executable) and you will get an error message.
3. The pathes used in the script must be correct.
